About the 2025 World Triathlon Training Volume Guidelines for Young Athletes CPD Course:

This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course provides a comprehensive understanding of the importance of planning and structuring appropriate training volumes based on athletes' developmental stages. Participants will explore the key principles of age-appropriate training, considering the physiological, psychological, and social factors that influence long-term athletic development. Through case studies and practical applications, attendees will learn how to design training programs that optimise performance while minimising the risks of overtraining, burnout, and injury.

Course Overview:

This course explores the critical considerations for planning training volumes in young athletes, focusing on the Youth Physical Development Model (YPDM). Participants will gain insights into:

  • The transition from LTAD to YPDM and its implications for training.

  • How to structure training loads based on age, developmental stage, and training history.

  • The risks of excessive training volumes, including injury and burnout.

  • Strategies for balancing training, recovery, and overall athlete well-being.

  • A holistic approach to athlete development, considering physical, psychological, and social factors.

Through a combination of theoretical foundations and practical applications, the students will gain the knowledge and tools to optimise training volumes effectively, ensuring sustainable athlete growth and performance.
