Members and Associate members - How to become part of World Triathlon?

 

What is a Member?

According to the World Triathlon Constitution, a Member is a National Federation that has been admitted by the Congress as a Member National Federation of World Triathlon.

What is an Associate member?

According to the World Triathlon Constitution, the status of Associate member can be granted to an association of National Federations, or to a National Federation, as a provisional Member National Federation, pending the Congress approval, or a National Federation that has no National Olympic Committee within its own country. 

Below are listed the main rights and obligations of the Members and Associate members, as well as the difference between the two (2) statuses.

To become a Member or Associate member of World Triathlon, the world governing body for the sport of Triathlon, the following requirements must be met, in accordance with the World Triathlon Constitution.

  1. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

    1.1. Letter of Application
    Apply to World Triathlon (members@triathlon.org) in writing, providing:
    - Motivation behind such an application;
    - Description of the activities that have been carried out by the applicant until now;
    - Future activities;
    - Structure of the applicant: names and contact details of executive board members, staff, etc.

    1.2. Letter of Compliance
    A Letter of Compliance sample can be found below and it should include the following:
    - The applicant will comply with the requirements established in the World Triathlon Constitution, Rules, Regulations and Codes;
    - Refer to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Lausanne) in case of any disputes between the applicant and World Triathlon, including but not limited to Anti-Doping;
    - Comply with all other matters as outlined in the World Triathlon Constitution, including the World Triathlon Anti-Doping Rules and current WAD Code;
    - Ensure gender equality.

    1.3. Constitution
    - A copy of the National Federation Constitution that must include the following:
    a) Refer to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Lausanne) for any disputes which may arise between the National Federation and World Triathlon, including, but not limited to, Anti-Doping; and
    Comply with all other matters as outlined in the World Triathlon Constitution, including (but not limited to) the World Anti-Doping Code (WAD Code) and all the International Standards and adopt the World Triathlon Anti-Doping Rules.

    1.4. National Olympic Committee recognition letter (for Members only)
    The applicant shall be recognised as the governing body for the sport in their respective Country. This status shall be confirmed by the respective National Olympic Committee (NOC) by providing a certificate and/or letter.

    1.5. Membership Fee (for Members only)
    Pay a Membership Fee of $300 (USD). The Membership Fee shall be paid on a yearly basis.

  2. Rights & Obligations of World Triathlon's Members

    2.1. Rights of World Triathlon Members
    World Triathlon members, according to the World Triathlon Constitution, have the following rights:
    a) Appoint Delegates to attend, speak and vote at meetings of Congress, in accordance with this Constitution;
    b) Submit resolutions for inclusion in the agenda of Congress;
    c) Submit nominations for President, Vice-Presidents, Ordinary Executive Board members, Committee members, World Triathlon Tribunal members and other Officials;
    d) Receive the annual Executive Board report together with such other reports that are required to be made to Congress as specified in this Constitution;
    e) Receive circulars and other official information as specified in the Rules and Regulations;
    f) Enter athletes in International Competitions in accordance with the relevant competition rules and procedures;
    g) Be a member of a Continental Confederation in accordance with the constitution and rules of the relevant Continental Confederation;
    h) Take part in and benefit from World Triathlon's assistance, development and educational programmes organised directly or through the Continental Confederations, with the exception of the Gibraltar Triathlon Association;
    i) Take part in and benefit from World Triathlon's assistance, development and educational programmes organised directly or through the Continental Confederations;
    j) Share such other rights and privileges as set out in this Constitution and the Rules and Regulations.

    2.2. Obligations of World Triathlon's Members
    World Triathlon's Members shall respect the World Triathlon Constitution.
    Inter alia, each Member shall be in Good Standing with World Triathlon by providing the following before the 1st of May of each year:
    a) Pay the Annual Membership Fee (300 USD);
    b) Submit the Financial Statement, approved by the Executive Board of the National Federation; and,
    c) Submit the Annual National Federation Survey.

  3. Rights and Obligations of World Triathlon Associate members

    3.1. Rights of World Triathlon Associate members
    World Triathlon Associate members, in accordance with the World Triathlon Constitution, shall have the following rights to:
    a) Participate in any event or activity organised by World Triathlon.
    b) Organise its own territorial competitions in accordance with the World Triathlon Rules;
    c) Appoint two (2) delegates, maximum one (1) of each gender, to attend Congress;
    d) Be invited to take part in any World Triathlon Congress with a voice but without voting rights and without the right to present candidates to any World Triathlon position; and
    e) In the case of Continental Confederations, also the right under Art 44 of the World Triathlon Constitution.

    3.2. Obligations of World Triathlon's Associate members
    World Triathlon's Associate Members shall respect and follow the World Triathlon Constitution.
    Inter alia, each Associate member shall be in Good Standing with World Triathlon by providing the following before the 1st of May of each year:
    a) Submit the Financial Statement approved by the Executive Board of the National Federation; and,
    b) Submit the Annual Survey.
