World Triathlon Athlete Scholarship

WORLD TRIATHLON ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP

Project Goal
The primary objective of the World Triathlon Athlete Scholarship Programme is to identify and provide support, resources, and expertise to those athletes from developing/emerging National Federations (NF Groups*: 2, 3B, 3A) with the greatest needs to help them compete at the World and the Continental level over the next months of the Olympic Qualification Period and help their preparation and qualification for the upcoming LA2028 Olympic Games. Target National Federations
The target athletes must be from National Federations belonging to National Federation Group 2, 3B, and 3A (As per National Federation Survey, more details are here).


Qualification Criteria

Athletes must be registered and in good standing with their National Federations. Athletes have demonstrated the ability to race at a high level in Continental and World Triathlon Cup competitions. The nominated athletes should be committed to long-term competition and have the Olympic Games as their ultimate objective.
World Triathlon Development will consider the following criteria in the selection process:

  • Athletes must have the potential to be able to qualify for the LA2028 Olympic Games via one of the following qualification pathways:

    • Individual Olympic Qualification Ranking

    • Continental “New Flags” (World Triathlon Ranking or Continental Game Pathways) 

    • Universality Invitational Place (IOC Tripartite Commission)

  • Must be from an emerging/developing National Federation (NF Groups: 2, 3B, 3A).

  • Nominees must be in the top 220 on the World Triathlon Ranking

All applications will be considered with a strong endorsement from the Athlete’s National Federation.

PLEASE NOTE: All nominations MUST be submitted by the respective National Federation of the nominee. The National Federation must be in good standing with World Triathlon. 

Timeline

Applications should be submitted via the online form no later than Monday, 31 August 2026 (CET). Successful applicants will be informed by early September, and World Triathlon Development will coordinate the plans with the successful athletes and their NFs.

Use of the Support Grant

The World Triathlon Athlete Scholarship may be used for the following, as defined in the athlete’s 2026 planning and approved by World Triathlon Development:  

  • Participation (travel, accommodation) at qualification races on the way to LA2028

  • Training Camp 

  • Massage, Physiotherapy
