About the course
About the 2026 Murcia World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 Course for (Former) Elite Athletes:
- World Triathlon Development is launching a new initiative to provide career transfer opportunities to those (former) elite athletes, who are planning to shift towards coaching. According to the fast-track entry criteria detailed in the relevant Curriculum Document, athletes having competed at the top level are eligible to enter the World Triathlon Coach Education Pathway straight forward at Level 2, without the requirement to complete preceding levels.
- Athletes can directly apply by filling in this application form. National Federations are also welcome to nominate their eligible athletes.

• User upload to the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub / start of the online phase: 12 Sep 2026
• Pre-course tasks 30 % deadline: 26 Sep 2026

• Withdrawal / replacement deadline: 30 Jun 2026

Gender Equity:
- Participation is limited to 6 male and 6 female slots, which will be filled based on World Triathlon Development's selection.
Target Audience:
- This course is exclusively targeted at (former) elite athletes with an intent to transfer into coaching who display the following attributes:
- Desire and aptitude for coaching, with a passion for helping and supporting others, potentially across a range of contexts. E.g. Local Clubs, Age-Group, Child Development, Schools, Performance (Youth, U23, Elite);
- Willingness and open-mindedness to learn new skills;
- Ability to participate in the course fully and complete all required assessments;
- Commitment to fulfilling the roles and responsibilities expected of a World Triathlon Level 2 Triathlon Coach;
- Potential to make a positive impact on Triathlon Coaching and Development in their region;
- Agree to abide by the World Triathlon coaches Code of Ethics.
Entry Requirements:
- World Triathlon Development will select participants from applying/nominated (former) elite athletes, considering their potential impact on sport development in their countries and regions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following in their application:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course programme;
- Demonstrate a high level of spoked and written skills in the language the course will be delivered in (English);
- It is strongly recommended that candidates have appropriate insurance cover before undertaking any independent coaching practice;
- Completion of application form and willingness to take part in interview (online).
Course delivery:
- The course language is English. The courses are partially running on the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub (https://education.triathlon.org) which requires internet/computer or mobile device access from the participants.
- Once accepted onto the course, learners will:
- be issued with a World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub password and username;
- complete pre-course induction material, which explains the requirements to complete the course;
- receive a welcome message from Facilitators, introducing themselves and encouraging engagement with the course;
- be required to complete online pre-course tasks and assignments within the specific timeframe of being entered onto the education hub system. Failure to do this may result in the participant being removed from the course.
