Elite athletes converge in Tongyeong as the 2025 World Triathlon Cup season nears its finale
The women’s field is stacked for the final Asian stop of the 2025 World Triathlon Cup season, with 54 athletes ready to light up Tongyeong’s scenic harbour circuit. The sprint distance format (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run) will reward fast starters, sharp transitions and race day composure, qualities that have defined the athletes coming out of Miyazaki and Wollongong in recent weeks.
ONES TO WATCH
Among the contenders, Diana Isakova (AIN) is showcasing excellent form after a strong fourth-place finish in Miyazaki, just shy of the podium in one of the most competitive sprint fields of the year. Close behind her, Great Britain’s Tilly Anema will look to continue her fine form after claiming World Cup bronze in Japan with an assertive swim and composed run finish. Both have proven themselves capable of navigating the intensity and dynamics that sprint-distance racing in Tongyeong demands.
Team Japan will be led by Manami Hayashi, whose 2025 season continues to impress following a fourth place in the U23 World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong and a strong race in last week’s World Cup in Miyazaki.
The Australian contingent brings firepower and depth to the line-up, with Charlotte Derbyshire, Kira Hedgeland and Sophie Malowiecki all posting top ten finishes in Miyazaki and looking to carry that momentum into Korea. Australia’s current U23 world champion Richelle Hill also adds to the nation’s strong presence, ensuring a powerful green and gold showing in the closing races of the season.
Spain’s Cecilia Santamaría arrives in Tongyeong full of confidence after her superb fifth-place finish in Miyazaki, joined by USA’s Danielle Orie who comes in strong following her 12th place last weekend. Keep an eye on France’s Léa Coninx, who continues to show she’s one to watch in this World Cup field.
Adding another layer of intrigue into the race mix is Italy’s Angelica Prestia, who claimed silver in the U23 World Championships in Wollongong earlier this year. Her recent form signals a smooth transition into the senior ranks and she’ll be one to watch as she tests herself in Tongyeong’s demanding sprint conditions.
With the mixture of rising young talent, proven podium performers and strong national contingents, the women’s race in Tongyeong promises fireworks from start to finish. The combination of fast transitions, tight bike packs and short run loops ensures little room for error and plenty of room for drama as the 2025 World Triathlon Cup season nears its finale on the Korean coast.
