The 2025 Cross Duathlon World Championships crowned a new set of world champions in Pontevedra today, as athletes tackled the rugged terrain of Galicia in a thrilling race of endurance.
JUNIOR RACES RECAP
In a dominant showing on home soil, Spain swept the junior Cross Duathlon categories, with Manuel Prada Viciano powering to victory in the junior men’s race. Prada pushed hard on the bike to open a gap before sealing the win on the run.
“I knew it was very difficult, and I had to push on the bike to fight for the win. I was able to run very well, I gave everything. It's a great prize for all the work I've done,” said Prada after claiming gold.
Fellow Spaniard Aleix García Vilaseca claimed silver, with Sebastiano Margaria of Italy rounding out the podium in third.
In the junior women’s race, sisters Julia and María Tenorio Albo thrilled the home crowd with a one-two Spanish finish. The duo worked together through the run, bike and run format, before Julia edged ahead, in the final stage of the run, to take gold.
“My sister María and I relieved each other on the bike and in the run, I had a little more power in my legs to win, but she could have been the winner as well. It's great to share this victory with her,” said Julia Tenorio.
Italy’s Serena Bratti took bronze.
ELITE RACES RECAP
The Elite men’s title went to Thibaut De Smet of Belgium, leading a Belgian one-two ahead of Sebastien Carabin, with France’s Arthur Forissier securing bronze. De Smet’s calculated effort on the technical bike course proved decisive.
“I am very happy for the second time, I can’t believe it. It was a perfect race for me. First into T1 (transition 1), first on the bike, I pushed very hard on the bike lap with a big advantage into T2 (transition 2), the run was great. I can’t believe it,” said Thibaut De Smet.
In the Elite women’s race, Anna Zehnder of Switzerland delivered a commanding performance to claim the world title, ahead of Italy Noemi Bogiatto and Australia’s Laura Gillard.
“Last time I competed in the Multisport World’s Duathlon Championships, I was second so I got the gold this time, I am so happy,” said Zehnder.
U23 RACES RECAP
Bogiatto and Gillard also shared the U23 Women’s podium, with Spain’s Zoila Sicilia Martin taking bronze.
In the U23 Men’s category, Belgium’s Yannis Devoldere took gold, followed by Italy’s Davide Catalano and Spain’s Pedro De La Torre Llobregat.
