World Triathlon and Olympic Solidarity

What is Olympic Solidarity?
The aim of Olympic Solidarity is to provide assistance to all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) for athlete development programmes, in particular those with the greatest needs of it. This assistance is achieved through multi-faceted programmes prioritising athlete development, but also training of coaches and sports administrators and promoting the Olympic values.

The next edition of the World Triathlon National Federations Virtual Open Hours will focus on Olympic Movement on Wednesday (18 May 9:30 CEST – ENG, FRA) and Thursday (19 May 16:30 CEST – ENG, ESP). The IOC Olympic Solidarity Representatives will provide an overview of the world programmes available to all National Federations via their respective National Olympic Committees. More details and links to the Zoom webinar will be provided shortly.
Visit the website for more information on the NF Open Hours and how to register.

IOC Olympic Solidarity has helped to deliver two World Triathlon Activator Community Seminar Courses which took place back-to-back in Conakry, Guinea and Segbohoué, Benin at the beginning of April. Two courses have been delivered onsite.

The targeted National Federations of the World Triathlon Activator Courses are ones where Triathlon is in its early stages of development, with limited support for the growth of the sport. These National Federations host the Activator course locally in the lead-up to an event that they are hosting. The course usually also includes 16-25 participants from the host National Federation. There are no entry requirements, the Activator Course is open to all. Course facilitators focus on helping Activators to develop the skills to plan and deliver a local event (on day 4 of the course) as an outcome. This Triathlon (or multi-sport) event is for the local community with the aim being to practice the skills learned during the course and to create an event that can become a regular occurrence and allow the development and progression of the sport, for the benefit of the community in the long term.

The course delivery is flexible depending upon the local resources and is focused on applying practical skills. Two facilitators deliver the course: one with a profile of World Triathlon Technical Officiating and Event Organising and the other with a World Triathlon Coaching profile. Topics cover a general Triathlon overview, including officiating (rules), events and an introduction to training and coaching. Theoretical and practical sessions are integrated during the seminar.

The following World Triathlon Activator Community Seminar Courses were delivered through Olympic Solidarity in April.

2022 Conakry OS - World Triathlon Activator Community Seminar, 4-7 April

The course is granted by IOC Olympic Solidarity, it is not open to international participants

Testimonials

Laurent MASSIAS (FRA), Lead Facilitator
“I enjoyed facilitating this training in Benin for a group of motivated and diligent participants. All of them perfectly assimilated the proposed work. With this group, the Beninese federation will now have a group of competent technicians capable of developing activities (coaching and organization of events) within their future clubs. The triathlon federation has few resources, but this event strengthened it with the NOC and opened doors. Benin can hold good surprises for us in the years to come.”

Madhi MNIF (TUN), Facilitator
“What I appreciated especially in this training is the willingness and the desire to learn from all participants. This training allowed them to improve their theoretical knowledge as well as the organizational aspects of an event. I am very satisfied and aware that these coaches will apply what they have learned in their clubs.”

Joliane Koussihouede (BEN), Participant
“Regarding the training, I am extremely pleased because it gave us enough knowledge to tackle triathlon in Benin. I want to thank the facilitators as they were simply great. They gave us the desire and an appreciation for this sport.”

Richard Assah (BEN), Beninese Triathlon Federation President / Président de la Fédération Béninoise de Triathlon
“I am pleased to be taking part in this training since Sunday, which will allow me to have skilled coaches and reach my goal of having a group of ten to thirteen-year-olds for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026.”
