Welcome to the final edition of the 2025 Monday Morning Mix. If we were to say the start of the season feels like it was only yesterday, we would be lying. But what a year it has been. To everyone that has followed along through all the twists and turns of 2025, as well as all the athletes and fans beyond, we would like to thank you and wish you a very happy New Year.
There was only one international race left to complete and, for the last time this season, you can read on for the breakdown of what happened in this week’s Mix.
Asia Sprint Duathlon Championships Kish Island
The year could not end on a whimper and with that in mind a final international title was up for grabs. A week removed from sweeping the men’s podium at the Asia Youth Triathlon Championships, the home Iranian team were on a tear in Kish Island as Farid Hadipour (IRI) won ahead of Meysam Rezaei Layeh (IRI) and Mohammadamin Sadramin (IRI).
Hadipour was among a lead quintet that arrived in T1 together after the opening 5km run. Rezaei Layeh and Sadramin followed around 15 seconds in arrears. Making his move on the 20km bike, Hadipour struck a decisive blow against his fellow leaders. Rezaei Layeh, though, was equal to his efforts and caught the lone leader. Together, they would put a minute into Sadramin and his chase pack.
A final 2.5km run rounded things off and here Hadipour had Rezaei Layeh’s number, out-splitting him by 24 seconds to take the win. Sadramin matched the race winner’s split to the second (8:35), but it would not be enough to overhaul Rezaei Layeh.
As if to reassert their dominance at the event, the home team also locked out the women’s podium. In a closely-fought battle, Hadis Nasr Azadani (IRI) and Faezah Sadat Abedini Nezhad (IRI) went toe-to-toe until one broke through at the last.
The lead pair were a cut above the rest in the opening run, logging identical splits and putting considerable ground into their rivals. Nasr Azadani would gain 4 seconds in T1 but Abedini Nezhad returned the favour on the bike and led into T2 by 1 second. It was therefore all to play for on the final run.
Although Abedini Nezhad finished higher than her teammate in the duathlon at the Chengdu World Games back in the summer, this time it was Nasr Azadani’s turn to finish ahead as she kicked clear to win by 13 seconds. Meanwhile, Reyhane Khartooni Daryan (IRI) used a field-leading bike split behind the leaders to earn the bronze medal. View the full results here.
