The second-ever Para Mixed Relay World Championships saw Team USA retain the title they won in Torremolinos last year on a glorious Wollongong morning, day four of the 2025 Championship Finals.
It had looked like France were in control at halfway after Louis Noel had set an electrifying early pace to carve out a huge gap at the front, then a battle between Brazil and Australia began raging behind, before the USA came back flying into it, Owen Cravens and guide Kevin McDowell eventually bringing it home after great work from Emelia Perry, Carson Clough and Grace Norman.
It would be Australia’s Jack Howell steering the hosts home for silver and into the arms of teammates Lauren Parker, Jeremy Peacock and Maggie Sandles, a delighted Ruiter Silva crossing for Brazil’s bronze after Jessica Ferreira, Jorge Luis Fonseca and Leticia Freitas had combined to put them right into medal contention.
Emilia Perry
'My bike was good, my swim was terrible, but on the run I was just trying to catch those ahead of me.'
Carson Clough
'All the legs are always tough, but it was my job to give the team the biggest lead, especially after my performance yesterday so I just did what I could and left it all out there.'
Grace Norman
'I don’t think I’ve gone that hard in a very long time, I just saw the green and yellow of Australia ahead and tried to get my team as much of a lead as possible.'
Owen Cravens
'Our goal was to smash the bike as hard as we can and I know I can run pretty fast so wanted to see what I can do. Carson said ‘don’t blow the lead’ so we couldn’t lose. Yesterday we had some misfortune and today made up for that.'
