World Triathlon is set to deliver an innovative Level 2 Coaching Course for (former) elite athletes at the High Performance Centre in Murcia, Spain, supporting career transition pathways within the sport.
Scheduled for October 2026 at CAR Murcia, the 2026 Murcia World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 Course for (Former) Elite Athletes is a targeted initiative designed to retain elite-level knowledge within triathlon by equipping experienced athletes with the skills, structure, and support required to step confidently into coaching roles.
A Fast-Track Coaching Opportunity
This programme introduces a streamlined entry point into the World Triathlon Coach Education Pathway. In recognition of their competitive experience, eligible (former) elite athletes can enter directly at Level 2, bypassing earlier certification levels in accordance with the fast-track criteria outlined in the World Triathlon curriculum document.
The course is aimed at athletes who are motivated to transition into coaching across a variety of environments, including community clubs, youth development, schools, and high-performance settings.
Course Structure and Delivery
Delivered in English, the course will be facilitated by experienced World Triathlon educators Istvan Jankov (HUN) and Vicent Beltran (ESP).
The programme combines online learning and face-to-face delivery, ensuring a comprehensive and flexible learning experience:
- Online Phase: Delivered through the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub, including structured pre-course learning and assessments
- Face-to-Face Course: 24–28 October 2026 at CAR Murcia
- Post-Course Assessment: Completion required by 5 December 2026
Participants will be required to engage fully with all course components, including pre-course tasks, interactive learning, and final assessments.

Gender Equity Commitment
In line with World Triathlon’s commitment to gender equity, participation will be limited to 12 athletes, with an equal allocation of 6 male and 6 female places. Final selections will be made by World Triathlon Development based on merit and potential impact.
Who Should Apply?
This course is designed for (former) elite athletes who demonstrate:
- A genuine passion for coaching and athlete development
- A willingness to learn and engage in new coaching methodologies
- The capacity to complete all course requirements
- A commitment to upholding the World Triathlon Coaches' Code of Ethics
- The potential to positively influence triathlon development within their region
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess strong English communication skills, and be prepared to complete an application and interview process.
