2005 ITU Madrid World Cup

The competition in this years Madrid world cup is heating up even before it   has begun with over 15 elite men on the waiting list just to enter the event.   There are over 90 entries form around the world but the ITU rules limit the   startling list to 75 competitors.   Televisión Española, the Spanish public TV channel, will broadcast the 2005   ITU Madrid World Cup, which will take place next 5th June at Casa de Campo.   The Estadio 2 program (second channel of TVE) will provide an hour’s highlight   the same evening of the events.
 
  Last year, TVE offered a half an hour’s program with highlights of the 2004   ITU Madrid World Cup. This is the third time in a row that Madrid will host   the ITU Triathlon World Cup.

The 2005 ITU Madrid World Cup is part of the ITU Triathlon World Cup, which includes 14 events taking place all over the world between April and November. The 2005 ITU Madrid World Cup will be the fifth event this year and the first one in Europe.

This year, the ITU Madrid World Cup will be held one month before the IOC is to decide which city will host the 2012 Olympic Games. Madrid is one of the five candidate cities together with Paris, London, New York and Moscow.

The best triathletes in the world will participate in Madrid. Each event of the World Cup offers a women’s race and a men’s race both having the same requirements (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and the same prizes will be given to the women and to the men.

The 2005 ITU Madrid World Cup will coincide this year with the World Environmental
  Day, a very important date according to the philosophy of the ITU Madrid World
  Cup and the Madrid 2012 candidacy to host the Olympic Games.
