World Triathlon continued to develop its TO pathways through new education initiatives, regional development seminars and ongoing professional learning opportunities throughout July.
USA Triathlon Launches Inaugural Hybrid Technical Officials Certification Programme
A major milestone was achieved with the successful delivery of the first hybrid USA Triathlon Level III / World Triathlon Level I Technical Officials Certification Seminar, developed in partnership between USA Triathlon and World Triathlon. The innovative six-week programme combined self-paced online learning, instructor-led virtual classroom sessions, scenario-based discussions, practical event experience and formal assessment. The hybrid format provided participants with greater flexibility while maintaining the high standards expected of World Triathlon Technical Officials education. The programme represents an important evolution in technical officials education, expanding access while ensuring participants continue to develop the knowledge, judgement and practical skills required to officiate at international competitions.

Southern Africa Strengthens Technical Officials and Event Organisation
The 2026 World Triathlon Technical Officials & Event Organisers Level 2 Seminar was delivered in Pretoria, South Africa, bringing together 10 participants from RSA, ZIM, NAM and KEN. The seminar achieved an impressive 50% female participation, reflecting World Triathlon's ongoing commitment to increasing diversity within the technical officials pathway. By combining technical officiating with event organisation education, participants strengthened their understanding of competition delivery, rules interpretation, event operations and best practice, helping build greater capacity across Africa.
“It was a very good & interactive group of TOs. This seminar will assist Africa Triathlon with meeting their gender equality for TD appointments starting 2027 onwards,” - Rick Fulton (ZIM), Africa Triathlon Development Continental Coordinator.

Early Revalidation Supports Developing International Technical Officials
World Triathlon also continued its Technical Officials Level 1 Early Revalidation E-Seminar, designed specifically for officials in the early years of their international officiating careers. Delivered over four months, the online programme provides a structured pathway for continued professional development through a combination of mandatory and optional learning modules. The programme encourages technical officials to continue building their knowledge and confidence while remaining engaged with current rules, officiating practices and competition standards. Participants complete all mandatory modules and assessments while having the flexibility to undertake additional optional modules aligned with their own development goals.
Continuing to Develop World-Class Technical Officials
World Triathlon's Technical Officials Education programme continued to ensure officials are well prepared to deliver safe, fair and consistently officiated events.
