The World Triathlon circuit welcomes a new destination as it heads to the sun-drenched shores of Saidia, Morocco, for the first time. This Sunday, June 29, the coastal town will host a highly anticipated World Cup race, an Standard distance event (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) that will see a talent-packed start list, promising a thrilling competition in the heart of this Mediterranean paradise.
Saidia, nestled along the northeastern coast of Morocco, is renowned for its stunning 14km coastline, golden sands, and idyllic Mediterranean climate. The race will begin with a beach start, sending athletes into the sparkling waters for a two-lap swim. The 40km bike leg will consist of eight laps, followed by a flat 10km run course made up of five 2km laps.
Leading the charge as number one seed is Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk. The seasoned veteran has balanced WTCS and T100 racing this season and brings a wealth of experience to the World Cup circuit. Known for thriving in hot conditions, Mislawchuk will be eager to add another podium finish to his already impressive collection.
Another athlete who excels when the mercury rises is John Reed (USA). This rising star has already tasted World Cup podium success, and his combination of powerful biking and fast legs makes him a serious contender.
Australia's Callum McClusky is also known for his blazing speed on the run course. If he can reach the second transition with the lead pack, he will be a formidable force. Similarly, Jawad Abdelmoula (MAR) will have the advantage of racing on home soil, fueled by the enthusiastic support of the local crowd. Fresh off his victory at the African Championships two months ago, the Paris Olympian is looking to make a statement.
Leading the sizable Spanish contingent is Kevin Tarek Viñuela. An excellent swimmer and strong cyclist, Viñuela's performance will depend on his recovery from a busy week, as he claimed bronze at the Cross Triathlon World Championships this Tuesday and will also compete in the Aquathlon World Championships this Friday in Pontevedra. If his legs are fresh, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Valentin Morlec (FRA) and Gergely Kiss (HUN) are always capable of impacting the race. Both are fast runners with strong swim-bike capabilities. Nicola Azzano (ITA), known for his speed in the water, and Darr Smith (USA) will be looking to make their mark from the start.
