More of the world’s best sporting talent is heading “Down Under” in October with the announcement by World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) that the T100 Triathlon Tour has been included in the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals program.
The already impressive World Triathlon Championship Finals racing schedule, which has the world’s best Elite, U23, Junior, Para Triathlon and Age Group athletes battling for world championship titles in various distances, has been further boosted with the inclusion of a T100 event and the community based “Rock n Run” on 18 October.
The T100 Triathlon World Tour is the official World Championship Tour of long course triathlon (2km swim, 80km bike ride and 18km run), that will culminate in Qatar in December. The stunning coastline and tough terrain of Wollongong now awaits the T100 pros with the addition of this spectacular Australian leg of the T100 tour.
World Championship Finals Race Director, Luke Palmer said that for one week in October, Wollongong will be the epicentre of world triathlon.
“It will be a world first, with the world's best short course and long course athletes all in the one post code and competing in the same venue.”
“This boost to the Wollongong program will create an event with unparalleled atmosphere for athletes and spectators, a once in a lifetime racing opportunity and massive bonus for sports fans locally, and across the globe.”
World Triathlon President, Antonio Arimany said this is a momentous occasion for the sport of triathlon.
“Bringing the T100 Tour to Wollongong alongside our World Triathlon Championship Finals underscores the strength of our partnership with the PTO and our shared commitment to growing the sport globally. This event in Wollongong will be a true showcase of the best in triathlon, and we are excited to witness the incredible racing that will unfold.”
Australian triathlon superstar, Ashleigh Gentle, currently competing in the T100 series and a former winner of the 2017 World Triathlon World Cup in Wollongong said Wollongong has always been a fantastic venue for triathlon.
“Any opportunity to race on home soil is one I definitely cherish. I am very much looking forward to welcoming the T100 athletes to Australia in October.”
The local community, visitors and the occasional “joggers and strollers” haven’t been forgotten in Wollongong with the inclusion of the iconic “RocknRun” into the World Championship schedule.
Mr Palmer is urging everyone to join in the excitement of the World Championship Finals event and experience the thrill of RocknRun under the stars, starting in Lang Park at 7:30pm on Saturday 18 October 2025.
“Literally everyone is invited to participate in RocknRun. Local families, world championships athletes, local runners, fit people, unfit people, Wollongong locals, young and old, spectators, tourists looking for something to do, or anyone looking for a fun night out.”
“Both the 2.5km and 5km family friendly events wind around the picturesque harbour and up past the iconic Wollongong Lighthouse, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and city lights. Run, jog, stroll or walk to music provided by DJs along the course. With the lighthouse shining above and the harbour reflecting the glow of night, it is a unique and unforgettable evening run that blends coastal beauty, community energy, and a dash of adventure,” he said.
Entry starts at $10, so for your own “World Champs” experience and unique RocknRun bragging rights register online.
