The world’s best gather in Tongyeong as the 2025 World Triathlon Cup season reaches its closing stages.
The penultimate World Triathlon Cup of the season lands in Tongyeong this weekend, where 65 elite men will line up along the radiant Korean coastline for what promises to be one of the fastest races on the 2025 calendar. The venue’s compact harbour course, featuring a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, has long been known for producing unpredictable finishes and tight racing, with athletes needing precision, power and courage through the tight corners and punchy climbs.
ONES TO WATCH
After storming to a hard fought bronze medal at the men’s World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong, Italy’s Alessio Crociani heads into Tongyeong full of form and intent. Crociani’s reliable swim to bike transitions and all round consistency make him a genuine title threat on the fast sprint course in Tongyeong. Fresh from his dominant victory at the World Triathlon Cup Miyazaki, Switzerland’s Max Studer heads to Tongyeong brimming with confidence. His commanding run form and tactical race craft were on full display in Japan and across the entire season, setting him up as the clear man to beat this weekend.
Japan’s Takumi Hojo also impressed in front of home fans in Miyazaki, leading the swim and dictating much of the early race tempo. Expect him to again be among the first out of the water in Tongyeong, eager to turn early aggression into a strong finish. Israel’s Shachar Sagiv, meanwhile, has been steadily building form after earning his first World Cup victory in Huatulco earlier this year. France’s Maxime Hueber-Moosbrugger, fresh off a brilliant silver medal in Miyazaki last weekend, lines up in Korea as one of the favourites to watch in Tongyeong.
Fellow Frenchman Nathan Grayel adds even more depth to the front end of the field, backed by a season of consistent World Cup top tens, including his impressive sixth place in Miyazaki last week.
Brandon Copeland headlines the Australian contingent in Tongyeong, aiming to cap his season with a big World Cup performance alongside fellow Aussie Lachlan Jones. Also adding to the Oceania narrative is Brayden Mercer, one of Australia’s emerging talents steadily making his mark as he transitions from continental to World Cup racing.
Great Britain’s Michael Gar will also attract plenty of attention following his breakout medal performance in Miyazaki, where he made an immediate impact in his World Cup debut. His rapid rise has been one of the talking points of the late season series and another strong showing here would cement his status as one of the sport’s emerging names.
With proven winners, rising stars and regional heroes all converging, the men’s World Triathlon Cup race in Tongyeong is shaping up to be a thrilling sprint spectacle. Fast transitions, tight packs and an unpredictable run finale await as the 2025 season edges toward its close in Korea.
