Pontevedra prepares to welcome the world for the 2025 Multisport Championships

The countdown is on for the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Pontevedra, Spain.
From 20–29 June, the picturesque city of Pontevedra, Spain, will transform into the global home of multisport, as the countdown continues for one of the most anticipated events on the World Triathlon calendar. With athletes, supporters and fans from around the world gearing up for an unforgettable week, the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Pontevedra promise racing at its best, plus a vibrant schedule of celebration and community connection.

The Championships in Pontevedra will bring together a dynamic line up of Multisport events that showcase the diversity and excitement of triathlon beyond the traditional format.

A week of Multisport, celebration and culture
Pontevedra is ready to impress. Not only will athletes face iconic, technical courses, but the city has planned an exciting schedule of community events and cultural experiences for everyone to enjoy.

The Multisport Championships will open in spectacular fashion with a magical Opening Ceremony in Plaza de España, featuring Augas de Lenda, a 360° theatrical production inspired by Galician mythology, directed by Pablo Méndez and brought to life by performers from Cirque du Soleil.

From there, the city comes alive with concerts, guided tours, outdoor performances, a city-wide music festival, Pride and Diversity celebrations and the always popular Event Expo.

And with nearly 3,500 athletes expected on the start line, the stage is set for a festival of sport. There's even talk that local legend and five-time World Triathlon champion Javier Gómez Noya may appear at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, 29th June.

Pontevedra has proudly committed to achieving Gold Certification through the updated World Triathlon Sustainability Certification program, becoming the first event to implement the latest version.

An energy-use plan to minimise consumption and promote renewable sources such as solar.
Surveys to measure emissions and help athletes, teams and delegations reduce their environmental impact.
Clothing and food donation programs to benefit local communities.
A goal to become a zero waste event, aiming to divert over 90% of waste through recycling, composting, reuse and donation.
Water refill stations and reusable cups provided in partnership with VIAQUA to eliminate single-use plastics.
A smoke-free venue environment.
Adoption of circular economy principles- Redesign, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle, in all race procurement and planning.
