Las World Triathlon Championship Finals Pontevedra 2026 pusieron punto final a la temporada de la World Triathlon Championship Series, con una importante presencia panamericana en las posiciones de privilegio de la clasificación final.
El brasileño Miguel Hidalgo terminó la temporada en el quinto lugar del principal ranking masculino, mientras que la estadounidense Taylor Spivey fue octava en la tabla general femenina.
A ellos se sumaron otros cuatro atletas panamericanos dentro del Top 20 de las clasificaciones finales: Los canadienses Charles Paquet, 14.º, y Martin Sobey, 20.º, también las estadounidenses Gwen Jorgensen, 15.ª, y Kirsten Kasper, 20.ª.
De esta manera, seis representantes de nuestro continente terminaron la temporada dentro de los 20 mejores atletas de la World Triathlon Championship Series en las categorías Elite.
MIGUEL HIDALGO, QUINTO EN LA CLASIFICACIÓN FINAL
El brasileño Miguel Hidalgo cerró la temporada 2026 en el quinto lugar de la clasificación final de la WTCS, con 3152,18 puntos.
Hidalgo llegó a Pontevedra nuevamente entre los protagonistas de la temporada después de haber conseguido resultados destacados a lo largo del calendario. El brasileño fue segundo en WTCS Alghero y también logró importantes posiciones en otras etapas de la Serie, manteniéndose durante buena parte del año dentro de los primeros lugares de la clasificación.
En la final de Pontevedra, Hidalgo terminó en el 32.º puesto de la carrera masculina. El triunfo fue para el australiano Matthew Hauser, quien se impuso en un ajustado sprint sobre el portugués Vasco Vilaça, mientras que el británico Alex Yee completó el podio.
El resultado de la final no impidió que Hidalgo conservara el quinto lugar de la clasificación general y cerrara nuevamente una temporada dentro de los principales protagonistas del circuito mundial.
CHARLES PAQUET Y MARTIN SOBEY, TAMBIÉN ENTRE LOS 20 MEJORES
Canadá también terminó la temporada con una fuerte presencia en la clasificación masculina.
Charles Paquet finalizó 14.º, con 2401,44 puntos, mientras que su compatriota Martin Sobey ocupó el 20.º lugar, con 1966,67 puntos.
Paquet había conseguido durante la temporada su primer podio de WTCS en Samarkand, donde terminó tercero, además de sumar otros resultados destacados que le permitieron mantenerse entre los principales atletas del circuito.
Sobey, por su parte, tuvo una temporada consistente y llegó a registrar dos séptimos puestos en la WTCS, en Yokohama y Karlovy Vary, resultados que contribuyeron a su presencia entre los 20 mejores de la clasificación final.
Con Hidalgo, Paquet y Sobey, Brasil y Canadá colocaron a tres atletas panamericanos dentro del Top 20 masculino de la WTCS 2026.
TAYLOR SPIVEY, OCTAVA EN LA CLASIFICACIÓN FEMENINA
En la rama femenina, Taylor Spivey terminó la temporada en el octavo lugar de la clasificación final de la WTCS, con 3601,19 puntos.
La estadounidense había sido una de las atletas más consistentes del circuito durante 2026 y llegó a Pontevedra después de conseguir la medalla de plata en WTCS Karlovy Vary.
En la final española, Spivey terminó en el 11.º puesto, después de haber formado parte del grupo delantero durante buena parte de la competencia.
Un incidente en el segmento de ciclismo provocó un problema mecánico y la hizo perder posiciones. Spivey llegó a la segunda transición en el puesto 20 y protagonizó una importante remontada durante los 10 kilómetros de carrera a pie para finalizar undécima.
Su resultado le permitió cerrar la temporada en el octavo puesto de la clasificación general, apenas por detrás de Jeanne Lehair.
La francesa Cassandre Beaugrand ganó la final de Pontevedra y se consagró campeona mundial de la WTCS 2026, mientras que las británicas Georgia Taylor-Brown y Kate Waugh completaron el podio de la carrera.
KASPER Y JORGENSEN COMPLETAN EL TOP 20
La actuación de las representantes estadounidenses se extendió también a Kirsten Kasper y Gwen Jorgensen.
Kasper fue la mejor atleta estadounidense en la final de Pontevedra, con un destacado sexto puesto en 1:53:10.
La estadounidense se mantuvo desde las primeras etapas de la competencia dentro del grupo delantero y logró permanecer en la cabeza durante el segmento de ciclismo antes de asegurar su posición entre las seis mejores en la carrera a pie.

Por su parte, Gwen Jorgensen terminó la temporada en el 15.º puesto, con 2245,61 puntos.
De esta manera, Estados Unidos colocó a tres atletas —Spivey, Jorgensen y Kasper— dentro del Top 20 femenino de la WTCS 2026.
ESTADOS UNIDOS VUELVE A GANAR EL PARA MIXED RELAY
El cierre del campeonato también dejó un nuevo título mundial para un equipo panamericano.
Estados Unidos conquistó el Para Triathlon Mixed Relay World Championship por tercer año consecutivo, defendiendo los títulos obtenidos en 2024 y 2025.
El equipo estadounidense estuvo integrado por Kendall Gretsch, Carson Clough, Grace Norman y Owen Cravens, con Kevin McDowell como guía en la última posta.
La definición volvió a ser ajustada. Australia terminó con la medalla de plata, mientras que Estados Unidos logró conservar el liderazgo en los metros finales para asegurar un nuevo título mundial.
Brasil completó el podio con la medalla de bronce, en otra actuación destacada para el paratriatlón panamericano. El equipo brasileño terminó apenas tres segundos por delante de Francia en la lucha por el tercer puesto.
PONTEVEDRA CIERRA UNA TEMPORADA DESTACADA PARA AMÉRICAS TRIATHLON
Las World Triathlon Championship Finals Pontevedra 2026 dejaron así un balance destacado para los atletas de Américas Triathlon.
En la clasificación final de la WTCS, Miguel Hidalgo terminó quinto, Taylor Spivey octava, Gwen Jorgensen 15.ª, Charles Paquet 14.º, Kirsten Kasper 20.ª y Martin Sobey 20.º.
A estos resultados se sumaron el sexto puesto de Kasper en la final femenina de Pontevedra, la remontada de Spivey para terminar undécima y el título mundial de Estados Unidos en el Para Mixed Relay, acompañado por el bronce de Brasil.
De esta manera, Pontevedra cerró a una temporada en la que los representantes del continente estuvieron presentes de manera constante en las principales posiciones del circuito internacional, con seis atletas dentro del Top 20 final de la WTCS y dos equipos panamericanos en el podio del relevo mundial de paratriatlón.

Pontevedra 2026: Miguel Hidalgo and Taylor Spivey Close the Season Among the WTCS Elite
The World Triathlon Championship Finals Pontevedra 2026 brought the World Triathlon Championship Series season to a close, with a strong Pan American presence among the leading positions in the final standings.
Brazil’s Miguel Hidalgo finished the season in fifth place in the men’s overall rankings, while American Taylor Spivey placed eighth in the women’s overall standings.
They were joined by four other Pan American athletes inside the final Top 20: Canadians Charles Paquet, 14th, and Martin Sobey, 20th, as well as Americans Gwen Jorgensen, 15th, and Kirsten Kasper, 20th.
In total, six athletes from the Americas finished the season among the top 20 athletes in the World Triathlon Championship Series Elite rankings.
MIGUEL HIDALGO FINISHES FIFTH IN THE FINAL STANDINGS
Brazil’s Miguel Hidalgo closed the 2026 season in fifth place in the final WTCS standings, with 3,152.18 points.
Hidalgo arrived in Pontevedra once again among the leading athletes of the season after producing a number of strong results throughout the calendar. The Brazilian finished second at WTCS Alghero and also recorded important results at other Series events, remaining among the leading athletes in the rankings for much of the year.
In the Pontevedra final, Hidalgo finished 32nd in the men’s race. The victory went to Australia’s Matthew Hauser, who edged Portugal’s Vasco Vilaça in a close sprint, while Great Britain’s Alex Yee completed the podium.
The result in the final did not prevent Hidalgo from retaining fifth place in the overall standings and closing another season among the leading athletes on the world circuit.
CHARLES PAQUET AND MARTIN SOBEY ALSO FINISH AMONG THE TOP 20
Canada also ended the season with a strong presence in the men’s standings.
Charles Paquet finished 14th, with 2,401.44 points, while his compatriot Martin Sobey placed 20th, with 1,966.67 points.
Paquet secured his first WTCS podium of the season in Samarkand, where he finished third, in addition to recording other strong results that allowed him to remain among the leading athletes on the circuit.
Sobey, meanwhile, enjoyed a consistent season and recorded two seventh-place finishes in the WTCS, in Yokohama and Karlovy Vary, results that contributed to his place among the top 20 in the final standings.

TAYLOR SPIVEY FINISHES EIGHTH IN THE WOMEN’S STANDINGS
In the women’s field, Taylor Spivey finished the season in eighth place in the final WTCS standings, with 3,601.19 points.
The American was one of the most consistent athletes on the circuit throughout 2026 and arrived in Pontevedra after claiming the silver medal at WTCS Karlovy Vary.
In the Spanish final, Spivey finished 11th, after being part of the front group for much of the race.
An incident during the cycling segment caused a mechanical problem and cost her several positions. Spivey reached the second transition in 20th place before producing a strong comeback over the 10-kilometre run to finish 11th.
Her result allowed her to close the season in eighth place overall, just behind Jeanne Lehair.
France’s Cassandre Beaugrand won the Pontevedra final and was crowned the 2026 WTCS world champion, while Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown and Kate Waugh completed the race podium.
KASPER AND JORGENSEN COMPLETE THE TOP 20
The strong performances from the American athletes also extended to Kirsten Kasper and Gwen Jorgensen.
Kasper was the top American athlete in the Pontevedra final, securing an impressive sixth-place finish in 1:53:10.
The American remained in the leading group from the early stages of the race and stayed at the front throughout the cycling segment before securing her place among the top six in the run.
Her result in Pontevedra allowed her to finish the season in 20th place in the final WTCS standings, with 1,855.18 points.
Meanwhile, Gwen Jorgensen finished the season in 15th place, with 2,245.61 points.
As a result, the United States placed three athletes — Spivey, Jorgensen and Kasper — inside the 2026 WTCS women’s Top 20.
UNITED STATES CLAIMS ANOTHER PARA MIXED RELAY WORLD TITLE
The championship finale also produced another world title for a Pan American team.
The United States won the Para Triathlon Mixed Relay World Championship for the third consecutive year, defending the titles claimed in 2024 and 2025.
The American team was made up of Kendall Gretsch, Carson Clough, Grace Norman and Owen Cravens, with Kevin McDowell serving as the guide on the final leg.
The finish was once again a close one. Australia took the silver medal, while the United States held on to the lead in the final metres to secure another world title.
Brazil completed the podium with the bronze medal, adding another strong result for Pan American para triathlon. The Brazilian team finished just three seconds ahead of France in the battle for third place.

The World Triathlon Championship Finals Pontevedra 2026 therefore brought a strong season to a close for the athletes from the Americas.
In the final WTCS standings, Miguel Hidalgo finished fifth, Taylor Spivey eighth, Gwen Jorgensen 15th, Charles Paquet 14th, Kirsten Kasper 20th and Martin Sobey 20th.
These results were complemented by Kasper’s sixth-place finish in the Pontevedra women’s final, Spivey’s comeback to finish 11th and the United States’ Para Mixed Relay world title, accompanied by Brazil’s bronze medal.
