General:
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the European Triathlon Union (ETU) wish to engage a part-time or project‐based person who has the ability and experience to promote the development of the sport of triathlon and related multi‐sports in Europe. The ITU Sport Development Co‐ordinator for Europe will work under the direction of the ETU Secretary General in conjunction with ITU Sport Development and will provide the ETU Executive Board with quarterly updates. This person will have the skill to assist potential and provisional member National Federations (NF), as well as new and less well‐developed NFs, in developing the basic functional roles of a National federation. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of sport in general, and a detailed knowledge of triathlon, particularly the national and international structures including the interaction with the Olympic and other movements. This person will also be able to understand the financial and governance requirements and constraints of National Federations.
Job Description
Work with:

all affiliated NFs to ensure that each one is operating effectively and efficiently under a good governance model;
ITU staff to ensure that there is congruence and convergence with ITU programmes, rules and protocol.{/exp:list_maker}
Work in the area of:
Administration, Finance and Legal (AFL):
{exp:list_maker}manage the delivery of the ITU Triathlon Tool Box, especially in the areas of Communications, Administration, Legal and Finance. The Tool Box facilitates the first steps in the establishment of new NFs, with clear guidance on how to become recognised by ITU and ETU;
implement the ETU Strategy 2009‐2013 and prepare annual progress reports for ETU and ITU Annual Congresses;
manage the ETU/ITU Sport Development budget in conjunction with the ITU Manager of Finance and Legal;{/exp:list_maker}
Events:
{exp:list_maker}assist the ETU Secretary General in administering the continental event calendar for Europe in conjunction with the ITU Technical Operations Manager;
be able to assist in the management of technical operations for all event disciplines;
be able to assist the Executive Assistant in managing communications for all continental event disciplines.{/exp:list_maker}
Sport Development:
{exp:list_maker}develop a robust and collaborative working relationship with the ITU Sports Development Department (SDD) to deliver coach and athlete development programmes as identified and prioritised by that department;
work with the ITU SDD on the education programmes for technical officials and organisers:
work with the ITU SDD on the appointment and certification of Technical Officials (TOs) in ETU and ensure that a competent team of well‐qualified TOs are in place within all NFs affiliated to ETU;
plan and implement an effective grassroots programme that addresses the basic introduction of the sport at the community level. (cf Kids of Steel in Great Britain, Weetabix Kids in Australia & New Zealand and Energade Kids in South Africa);
develop a working knowledge of the Olympic Solidarity programme and assist NFs in processing applications;
develop a formal reporting procedure that includes regular written updates and Skype calls;
manage the communications for all educational programmes being delivered within the ETU region, including pre and post‐event releases, photos and results in co‐operation with ITU Event Administration Manager, ITU Sport Results Manager and any current or future ETU Media Partner to ITU and ETU media database.{/exp:list_maker}
Media and Communication:
{exp:list_maker}maintain the ETU section of the ITU website in partnership with the ETU Executive Assistant and ensure that all contact, event and NF information is correct;
assist the ETU Executive Assistant in posting other internet based communication e.g. twitter, facebook etc.;
post relevant news stories from the region;
create a media contact database with input from all Affiliated NFs;
manage the communications for all continental event disciplines, including pre‐ and post‐event releases, photos and results in co‐operation with ITU Event Administration Manager, ITU Sport Results Manager and any current or future ETU Media Partner to ITU and ETU media database;
co‐ordinate the communications for all educational programmes being delivered within the ETU region, including pre‐ and post‐event releases, photos and results in co‐operation with ITU Event Administration Manager, ITU Sport Results Manager and any current or future ETU Media Partner to ITU and ETU media database.{/exp:list_maker}
Anti‐Doping:
{exp:list_maker}work with the ITU Anti‐Doping staff to maintain an effective and efficient anti‐doping programme for ETU, ensuring that all ETU affiliated NFs comply to the WADA Code and ITU Anti‐Doping Rules.
Person Specifications: The ITU Sport Development Co‐ordinator for Europe:
will be self motivated, task orientated and with the ability to develop collaborative work practices with ITU staff, the leadership of ETU and NFs in Europe;
will be able to travel extensively in Europe;
will possess current certification in at least two of the following: ITU level 2 Coach and/or Technical Official and/or Event Organiser certification;
will have skills and abilities to deal with the ITU Triathlon Tool Box;
will have a working knowledge of the Olympic Solidarity programmes and the knowledge to help National Olympic Committees process applications;
will be able work effectively with other social and economic structures within Europe (NGOs etc);
will possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English; have well‐developed networking skills and a knowledge of board governance;
will be computer literate with advanced abilities in all Microsoft Office applications;
will possess strong collaborative skills and the ability to initiate regular enquiries and updates using telephone and Skype conferencing, as well as following a formal reporting procedure as identified by ETU and the ITU SDD;
will be in good standing with her/his National federation;
will have a proven record of involvement with sport development.{/exp:list_maker}
