The Hong Kong ITU Level 2 Competitive Coaches Course took place on November 25-29 at the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Twenty-four participants from eight countries took the five-day course, which integrated sport sciences, programming, training, planning, and evaluation of junior and U23 triathletes.

Participants were drawn from the local coaching community of Hong Kong, while other coaches were nominated by their National Federations such as Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, Austria, Australia and New Zealand.

The diverse background of participants provided a variety of experience, vision, and reality in the sport of triathlon. ITU facilitators Luc Morin from Canada and Sergio Santos from Portugal created an interactive atmosphere by inviting questions and offering groups to share their expertise.

“Through this course, we put a lot of effort into maintaining the knowledge of relevant scientific and professional information related to the development of athletes. We recognize the need for ongoing education is needed for the development and future of our sport,” said Luc Morin.

“Our main goal was to present and share the demands of triathlon on junior and U23’s development, and apply the related skills and drills to their athletes. To achieve this goal, Luc and I tried our best to make each session interactive to share our experiences and knowledge,” said Sergio Santos.

“I am so grateful to have this opportunity to gather with my colleagues from other countries, and learn new theories and training methods throughout this course. The practical sessions enlightened me to be creative in my workout with young athletes,” said Eddie Huang, Chinese Taipei national team coach.

The next sport development project in Asia will be the Colombo Community Level Technical Officials & Event Organizers Seminar on December 22nd in Sri Lanka.
