Hungarian duo David Pap and Zsanett Horvath won their first European titles of the season as they claimed gold at the ETU Junior European Cup in Brno.
The Junior athletes of Hungary dominated this race, with Istvan Kiraly and Dora Fuchs also claiming a podium place and four out of the top five places in the Junior Men’s race being occupied by Hungarians.
Horvath’s victory in the Junior Women’s race was the first of her career and also the first podium finish of her career. Pre-race favourites Renata Fuchs (HUN) and Ivana Kuriackova (SVK) both withdrew from the race which opened up the field and Horvath took full advantage.
She will hope that this breakthrough win will be the launchpad for a successful future.
In a race of firsts, Ivona Miklosova (SVK) and Dora Fuchs (HUN) also secured their first career podiums with 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Pap’s victory in the Junior Men’s race was the second of his career and a great boost ahead of the European Championships in a few weeks.
Alexey Kalistratov (RUS) and Istvan Kiraly (HUN) completed the podium with 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
