Ueda, Chacon triumph in Ecuador

Costa Rican Leonardo Chacon and Ai Ueda from Japan won the Salinas ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup in Ecuador.  In the elite women’s race, Ueda took the title with a time of 1 hour 59 minutes and 7 seconds, the only woman in the field to break the 2-hour barrier.  Chilean Barbara Riveros Diaz took the silver after a blistering final leg of 33:00, by far the fastest run split of the day amongst the women.  Elizabeth Bravo delighted the home crowds with the bronze.

In the elite men’s field, Chacon cruised to victory by margin of a minute and half over Mexican Eligio Cervantes. Ramon Ejeda Medina of Spain came across for bronze.
