Photo Of The Year: Week Six Result
This weeks winner an unknown athlete diving into the crisp blue of the Schwarzsee lake at the foot of the Austrian Alps. The beautiful calm day only broken by his leading foot. But does he come cap in hand? Look a little closer.
Now we’ve had the reader’s choice its back to our camera artist Janos Schmidt for his choice and why:
The five athletes are waiting for the swimming competition - actually the whole race is before them. We cannot see their face but we can imagine the physical and mental preparation. I think that the same can be seen in the position of the women - especially the one in the centre on tiptoes, as she wanted already to jump.
On the other hand we can’t forget about the location of the tournament: the Kitzbühel landscape gives a special background to the picture as well. The colours of the mountain and the sky show the greatest side of nature, again, with a beautiful contrast with the red dress of the athlete in the centre. - Janos Schmidt
