ITU Team World Championship to Take Place in Lausanne
Lausanne, Switzerland will host the 2010 ITU Triathlon Team World Championship on August 22, 2010. This event will take place one day after the first-ever ITU Triathlon Elite Sprint World Championship, also taking place in Lausanne.
“We couldn’t ask for a better location to host these two exciting events,” said ITU President Marisol Casado. “The first ITU Triathlon Team World Championship in Des Moines last year was a great success and we look forward to showcasing this fast-paced format in Lausanne this season.”
Each country will be allowed to enter two relays of four athletes (two men and two women). The teams will compete in the order of female-male-female-male. Each athlete will complete a 275-metre swim, 6-km bike and 1.5-km run. After each athlete finishes his or her swim-bike-run segment he or she will tag the next athlete in the relay to make the exchange.
The 2009 ITU Triathlon Team Triathlon World Championship was hosted by Hy-Vee in Des Moines, Iowa, alongside the prestigious Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup, with the Swiss Team taking home top honours, topping Australia by only eight seconds. Team Canada rounded out the podium.
A 4 x mixed relay triathlon will also be on the programme for the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore from August 14-26, 2010. Fore more information on the Youth Olympic Games visit www.singapore2010.sg
