Gold Coast 2009 Update

2009 Gold Coast ITU Triathlon World Championships
Event Planning Update November 2008

Venue
The Southport Broadwater Parklands (Event Headquarters) is currently undergoing a $32-million redevelopment. The redevelopment will result in a world class event precinct.  Construction is slightly ahead of schedule and is due for completion in April 2009.  See photo below.

Registration
The Online Registration system is currently in the final stages of development. National
Federations will be given access within the next few weeks once approved by ITU.
It is the LOCs aim to encourage all National Federations to have their teams finalized 60 days
(mid July 2009) out from the Championships. Payment for finalized teams must be made by 30
days (mid August 2009) out from the Championships.

ITU Corporate Triathlon World Championships
Promotional material for the 2009 Gold Coast ITU Corporate Triathlon Championships is currently being developed and will be complete for distribution by mid December. Information will be distributed to each National Federation before the end of December.

Marketing & Promotion ITU Triathlon World Championships, including Sprint
Promotion for the ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships will be done in conjunction with the ITU Triathlon World Championships. A marketing & promotional plan has been developed that involves both domestic and international aspects.

The plan includes the following:
National Federations will receive an information package before the end of December containing all event details along with information to include on their websites for athletes.
Direct Email updates are available upon signing up via event website
National Federation Newsletters and direct communications and feedback

Airport
There are two airport options:

The Gold Coast Airport (also known as Coolangatta Airport)
Located approximately 20kms south of the Gold Coast centre, Coolangatta Airport offers a variety of international and domestic flights on a variety of carriers. For a full list of carriers and flights please visit http://www.goldcoastairport.com.au

Brisbane International Airport
Located close to the states capital city and approximately 80kms North of the Gold Coast, Brisbane airport offers direct connections to 26 international and 39 domestic locations. Operating from both international and domestic terminals (with an interconnecting monorail) it is Queenslands most prominent airport. For a full list of carriers and locations visit: www.bne.com.au

Transportation Plan
A Transportation plan is currently under development. The plan will include airport transfers and transfer as required by the ITU (as per current contract). The LOC will also develop a localized athlete shuttle system to and from the venue from major accommodation houses due to the lack of accommodation on course.
