Anderson led the women’s race out of the second transition of the day followed by Siena Stephens of Jersey and Scotland’s Heeps. Anderson remained out in front with Heeps chasing in second. Namibia’s Maja Jeanne Brinkmann passed Stephens and moved into third position on the run and continued the hunt for medals.

Anderson took to the picturesque course for the 375m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run to finish and take the tape, earning gold for Australia with an overall time of 32:53, 24-seconds ahead of silver medallist Jessica Heeps of Scotland. Brinkmann, who showed her class on the run, was awarded bronze.

“It was such a great race, it was so fun, and I’ve never raced anything like that before. It was in a great place too; the whole atmosphere was amazing and to be part of Team Australia is like nothing else. I really enjoyed it all. We came from the Australian winter to this weather today and it was a bit of a shock to the system, but I think I pulled it off today,” Anderson said.

YOUTH MEN’S RACE
Scotland’s Alex Robin led the youth men’s triathlon race out of the 375m swim in Buccoo Beach and into transition with an impressive 10-seconds lead on Jersey’s Luke Holmes, Australia’s Jack Latham and India’s Yajat Aiyappa KP.
