World Triathlon racing returned to Rio de Janeiro for the first time since the 2016 Olympic Games, this time on a sprint-distance Copacabana course with some fresh faces looking to score a first World Cup win. After silver in Huatulco, USA's Kelly Wetteland was chasing another medal, Djenyfer Arnold and Vittoria Lopes on home soil also after their first gold and the in-form Zuzana Michalickova and Margareta Vrablova representing both Slovakia and the World Triathlon Development Team.
