The women’s world cup race in Chengdu featured a controlled swim and a bike leg that quickly formed into a large 50-strong lead group, keeping most of the favourites together into T2. On the 5K run, Valentina Riasova broke clear early and looked set for victory, but Germany's Laura Lindemann and Great Britain's Kate Waugh closed her down in the final kilometre. Lindemann then edged a dramatic sprint finish by the smallest of margins after a photo review.
