World Triathlon is pleased to reveal today, on Earth Day, its new Environmental Sustainability Strategy. The newly published policy will run from 2026 to 2030 and reinforces World Triathlon’s commitment to organisational and event sustainability, as well as its commitment as signatories to the UNFCCC Sport for Climate Action, IUCN Sports for Nature and UN Global Compact frameworks. Furthermore the strategy is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The reach of the strategy is not limited to World Triathlon as an organisation. Through a four-level implementation framework, it will extend to stakeholders across all levels, from continental and national federations all the way to athletes and local communities.
VISION
The sport of triathlon thrives in harmony with a healthy planet. World Triathlon’s vision is for a sustainable future for our sport: clean water, healthy air and thriving ecosystems. We can create a path toward this sustainable future by reducing emissions, preserving and restoring natural spaces, enabling safe participation, and inspiring climate-positive behaviour on race day and beyond.
MISSION
To unite the global triathlon community behind an ambitious environmental agenda, embedding climate action, nature protection, sustainable operations and responsible governance across all levels of the sport. By committing to the environment, we’re championing a healthy and sustainable future for our sport, our athletes, our communities and our planet.
