Age-Group Rankings FAQs (frequently asked questions)

What is the Age-Group Ranking?
A new system that ranks Age-Group athletes based on how well they perform compared to their fellow athletes in:
- The same Age-Group category
- The same gender
- The same race type and distance
using results from the past 15 years as comparison.

Which races will count?
- World Championships
- Continental Championships
(Across different formats; Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross, Winter, Sprint-distance, Standard-distance, Long-distance)

How do you score points?
1. Your race time is converted into a percentile score.
(compared to the results from the past 15 years within your Age-Group category for this race)
The percentile score is the value used to create an overall result list among all the athletes in the race (all Age-Group categories).
As a result, the final ranking position will differ from the actual finishing place in the race.
2. The winner gets a set number of points (depending on race type and level).
3. If fewer athletes race, the total points available are reduced.
4. With each finish position lower, 0.5% fewer points are awarded than the place above.
5. Everyone who finishes gets points (no cut-off).

How is your total ranking calculated?
- From your best 4 results from the last 2 years added together
- Rankings are updated after every scoring race

Will there be a ranking within my Age-Group category?
This is planned for a later phase of the ranking development. The rankings will include 3 filtering options:
- Age-Group category
- Year of birth
- National Federation (NF)
