A new video series providing expert guidance on emergency extrication from the field of play has been launched through a collaboration between the World Triathlon Medical and Anti-Doping Committee, the IOC Health, Medicine and Science Department, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations, and the medical department of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.
Developed to support medical and operational teams across several sports, the videos offer step-by-step demonstrations of best practices in event-specific settings, addressing a range of scenarios across water, cycling, and running environments.
The aim of the series is to enhance preparedness and ensure consistent, high-quality medical care across all levels of triathlon competition. Each video showcases gold-standard procedures while recognising that implementation may vary depending on location and available resources.
Presented by Dr Sergio Migliorini, chair of the World Triathlon Medical and Anti-Doping Committee, the triathlon video focusses specifically on rescue procedures in multiple emergency scenarios around large bodies of deep, open water that are typical of multisport race venues.
