World Triathlon congratulates Kirsty Coventry on her election as the new IOC President

On behalf of World Triathlon and our entire community, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations on the historic election of Kirsty Coventry as the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Her appointment marks a groundbreaking moment as she becomes the first female and the first African to lead the Olympic movement, a testament to her remarkable dedication and leadership in the world of sports.

We are proud to continue our excellent cooperation with the IOC under her guidance. Her background as an Olympic medallist ensures that athletes will remain at the forefront of the Olympic Games, and we are confident that her experiences will bring a fresh and valuable perspective to the IOC.

We also want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Thomas Bach, with whom we have had the pleasure of working closely over the past years. His steadfast commitment to increasing the presence of triathlon at the Olympics, including the addition of the mixed relay event to the Olympic Games program, has greatly enriched our sport and provided new opportunities for athletes.

We look forward to working together to further elevate triathlon and uphold the values of inclusivity, empowerment, and excellence that the Olympic movement represents. Congratulations once again, and we wish Mrs. Coventry every success in your new role!
