Qualification criteria released for the Aquathlon at the Bali 2023 ANOC World Beach Games

World Triathlon and ANOC are pleased to announce the Qualification Criteria for the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games that will take in Bali, Indonesia, and that will have once again Aquathlon included on the official programme, with three medal events: men, women and Mixed Relay.

A total of 60 athletes will participate in the Individual races, 30 men and 30 women, and they will compete on a 2,5km run – 1k swim – 2,5k run. For the Mixed Relay event, each athlete will do a 1.25k run - 500m swim - 1.25k run, with teams formed with a man and a woman from the same country, and each athlete to do the distance twice.

To be eligible to participate in the ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023, all athletes must be on the World Triathlon Aquathlon Ranking.

The 20 highest ranked athletes, on the World Triathlon Aquathlon Ranking as of 15 May 2023 will be allocated one quota place for their National Olympic Committee, respecting the maximum quota allocation of two athletes per country per event.

In order to ensure all continents are represented, the highest ranked athlete of a NOC from any of the five continents not yet represented following the allocation of quotas will receive one quota place for their NOC.
The Host Country, will have guaranteed two places per gender and event as long as they comply with the eligibility criteria. The remaining four places per gender will be allocated via invitations.

All countries that have a minimum of one man and one woman participating are eligible for the Mixed Relay competition, and if a country has two male and two females qualified, they can enter two teams in the Mixed Relay event.
The 2023 ANOC World Beach Games will take place 5-12 August 2023. More than 1,200 athletes from 97 NOCs competed at Qatar 2019 and similar global participation will be expected next year in Bali. The Games will be a celebration of beach and water sports, and will include the ten disciplines of the Core Programme – Aquathlon, Beach Handball, Beach Soccer, Beach Tennis, Beach Volley 4×4, Beach Waterpolo, Beach Wrestling, Individual Kata, Expression Kiteboarding and Open Water Swimming 5km– as well as additional disciplines proposed by the Organising Committee, to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The debut of Aquathlon at the Beach games was a fantastic one for Spain, who claimed gold in the three medals: Xisca Tous won the individual women’s race, Kevn Tarek Vinuelas was the first one crossing the finish line on the men’s race while both of them claimed gold in the Mixed Relay.
