Pontevedra delivers a Multisport masterpiece

The 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra has officially come to a close after an unforgettable week of racing, celebrations and comunity spirit and what a spectacle it has been.

Over 3,000 race starts across 10 epic days saw Age-Group, Para and Elite athletes light up the Spanish city, showcasing the true heart of the global triathlon community. Representing 44 National Federations, the world’s multisport family united for a festival of endurance and unforgettable race moments, all under the Galician sun.

Leading the charge were powerhouse teams from Great Britain, Spain and the USA, making up the largest contingents on site. The buzz from the blue carpet to the finish line was electric, with thousands of fans lining the streets in and around Pontevedra and cheering on their heroes.

MULTISPORT LEGEND TITLE
The following athletes were awarded the prestigious Multisport Legend title after completing the ultimate endurance test: five or more events across the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships.

A field of 69% men and 31% women showed up to race across the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Pontevbedra., 

And to top off the festival in iconic style, none other than Javier Gómez Noya, the king of triathlon himself, took to the stage at the closing ceremony in his own called Liorta. In his hometown of Pontevedra and in front of thousands of cheering athletes, Gómez swapped the finish line for the spotlight, performing with his band and closing the Championships.

ABU DHABI TO HOST THE 2026 WORLD MULTISPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS
The closing ceremony also marked the official handover to Abu Dhabi, host of the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships. The countdown is now on for another unforgettable chapter, this time on Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi, from 13–22 November 2026. With the support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the stage is set for a world-class multisport celebration in the heart of the UAE. With excitement already building, this community now sets its sights on the United Arab Emirates, where the spirit of Multisport will continue to thrive in a dynamic new setting.

Pontevedra 2025 will go down in history as one of the most vibrant and unforgettable editions of the Multisport World Championships. A city that lives and breathes triathlon and multisport delivered an atmosphere like no other. All stakeholders, the local organising committee and every athlete, spectator and volunteer played their part in writing the next chapter of our sport.
