Olsztyn kicks off back-to-back weekends of racing in Poland as the city hosts the ninth edition of the Triathlon Cup this weekend. Elite and Junior Europe Triathlon Cup races will take centre stage before attention turns to next week’s event in Rzeszów, with both venues staging sprint-distance racing for Elite and Junior athletes.
Among the standout names in the Elite Women’s field is Spain’s Ana Carballo Gómez, one of the four athletes who secured Mixed Relay gold in Chengdu earlier this month. She lines up wearing bib number three.
Fellow Spaniard María Teresa Jiménez-Orta Guerrero starts with bib number one, while Switzerland’s Nora Gmür takes number two after narrowly missing out on a medal in Caorle.
Poland’s reigning national champion Paulina Klimas is also set to make her first Europe Triathlon Cup appearance of the season on home soil.
The Elite Men’s race features a full field of 70 athletes, including Torremolinos bronze medallist Jaspar Ortfeld, who starts with bib number three.
Home hopes will rest heavily on Kuba Gajda, who leads the Polish contingent with bib number four.
France, meanwhile, will once again look to continue its recent dominance on the Europe Triathlon Cup circuit, with seven athletes entered for the men’s race.
Junior races set to deliver more excitement
France’s Thibault Rivier will aim to build on his third-place finish in Quarteira earlier this season, although Poland’s Kacper Serwiński, starting with bib number two, is expected to provide a strong challenge.
In the Junior Women’s race, Switzerland’s Anouk Danna arrives in strong form after claiming bronze in Torremolinos, her second podium of the season following victory in Quarteira. She starts as number one.
Israel’s Amit Ben Adiva, a double medallist in Caorle, will also look to continue her impressive run of results this weekend after her success in Italy.
