Marina Muñoz Hernando (ESP) delighted the home crowd with a silver medal performance, while veteran Barbara Riveros (CHI) -silver medallist at the 2025 and 2016 cross triathlon World Championships- secured a well-deserved bronze.
The elite athletes enjoyed a fantastic course that kicked off with a 1km swim in the pristine water of the Verducido rowing center, followed by a 30km MTB ride quite technical with 546m of elevation, to then finish with a 7.6km hilly run course on technical terrain all off road.
Isla Hedley (GBR) set the pace in the swim, leading the field out of the water, with Barbara Riveros and Elsa Pena Vicente (ESP) close behind. However, as soon as the women hit the bikes, Alizee Paties took control, quickly surging to the front of the race. Marina Muñoz followed closely, opening a small gap over the rest of the field. World Triathlon veteran Barbara Riveros remained in contention throughout the bike leg, demonstrating her versatility and proving herself a force to be reckoned with in off-road racing.
By the end of the challenging 30km bike course, Paties had built a 30-second advantage over Muñoz, and she never looked back. She ran strong to the finish line, claiming victory almost two minutes ahead of the Spanish athlete, who celebrated an ecstatic silver medal. An emotional Barbara Riveros crossed the line to take the bronze, completing a remarkable podium. Marta Menditto (ITA) finished fourth, with Anna Zhender (SUI) rounding out the top five.
In the U23 women's race, Isla Hedley (GBR) dominated the competition, claiming the World Title in commanding fashion. Laura Gillard (AUS) secured the silver medal, crossing the finish line just 25 seconds behind Hedley, while Mia Padmanabhan (GBR) took the bronze.
