Newly crowned Age-Group champions in Qatar

Qatar may have brought the heat, but the Age-Group races delivered the firepower at the first-ever T100 Triathlon Age-Group World Championship.

Inspired by the standout professional performances the day before, where Great Britain’s Kate Waugh and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde were crowned 2025 T100 Triathlon World Champions, a select field of qualified Age-Group athletes lined up on Saturday, 13th December to tackle the demanding 100km distance in Qatar.

Having earned their place through qualification at T100 events earlier in the year, these athletes rose to the challenge to represent their nation on the world stage.

Athletes powered through a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run, with the pace high and energy levels even higher.

With over 250 athletes representing 46 nations, the inaugural T100 Triathlon Age-Group World Championships Qatar delivered a truly global spectacle.

In the men’s race, a British trio led the charge, with Chris Fennell (GBR, M30–34) edging out Oliver Lockyer and Tom Wood in a great finish, separated by just 28 seconds.

Post-race reactions from the Age-Group athletes in Qatar

Reflecting on becoming the first-ever T100 Age-Group men’s World Champion, Fennell said:
“Super happy, super pleased with the race. It was very close at the end. It was a target, but without expectations.”

In the women’s race, Germany’s Janina Krug produced a dominant performance, claiming overall victory by an eight-minute margin. Still absorbing the magnitude of her achievement, she said:
“It’s so special. I’ve only been doing triathlon for three years and now I’m in this race. It’s a dream come true.”

Krug was welcomed across the line by Olympian and T100 pro bronze medallist Julie Derron and professional athlete Els Visser from the Netherlands, capping off a memorable moment on the world stage.

As the day unfolded, Age-Group champions crossed the line in quick succession, exhausted and elated after unforgettable races.

Jennifer Morton (GBR), winner of the women’s 30–34 category, summed up the experience perfectly:
“During it you’re like, ‘I’m never doing this again,’” she laughed. “Then you finish and you’re like, ‘When’s the next one?’”

Morton, who only began triathlon in 2024, added:
“It feels amazing. I didn’t expect this progress. It’s all thanks to my coaches who gave me a phenomenal build for this race.”

Men’s 45–49 champion Kevin Chow (HKG) was equally delighted after his finish:
“The course is really beautiful and everything was really well organised. I’m shocked that I won, it’s unbelievable. On the third lap I saw I was catching and it gave me extra motivation.”

In the women’s 45–49 category, Australia’s Chloe Canning claimed victory, balancing training with full-time work and family life.
“I have two kids and I work full time, so training is tough, but you do what you can. I didn’t think I’d win. The run was brutal, but I loved it. The atmosphere and crowd support were amazing, I’d 100% recommend this event and I’ll definitely do more T100s.”
