Mislawchuk wears the one as world-class racing returns to Edmonton

Wearing the number one and leading out a 65-strong field for the men’s 2026 World Triathlon Cup Edmonton, Canada’s own Tyler Mislawchuk chases a third straight World Cup podium on 18 July.

It’s a familiar course for triathlon fans, the longstanding host of the Championship Series and the 2021 Finals where Flora Duffy and Kristian Blummenfelt reigned supreme. Now, the sprint distance action makes its return to Hawrelak Park for the sixth World Cup of the year. Watch it all unfold from 2pm local time on TriathlonLive.tv.

Local hero Tyler Mislawchuk will wear the number one on Saturday, having made the travel from a Hamburg individual and mixed relay double-header last weekend, and now looking for a big World Cup result before he sits out WTCS London on 25 July.

It has been a mixed bag in 2026 for the 31 year old from Winnipeg, 850 miles east of Edmonton. Individual and relay bronze at the Chengdu World Cup was followed by 16th in Alghero, where there were once again signs of his very fastest run form. That was much in evidence as he stormed to a third Huatulco World Cup win in June, and if Hamburg wasn’t quite firing from the gun, it was another swift 5km clocked at 14m33 that will see him hit Edmonton confident of a 10th career World Cup podium.

Austria’s Tjebbe Kaindl has been a consistent force across the bike in recent seasons and would love to detonate the kind of breakaway that could help him secure a first ever World Cup podium. A last-minute cll up from the waitlist to take 15th at a stacked WTCS Hamburg will have given last year's Lievin indoor World Cup bronze medallist Mitch Kolkmann (NED) renewed confidence in his mission for a second Cup podium.

Nicola Azzano finds himself in the form of his life after helping Italy to Mixed Relay Series silver in Quiberon, where he also scored his best ever top-tier individual finish of sixth, promising young teammate Euan De Nigro also part of that quartet in France and showing he has what it takes to mix it at the highest level.

The USA’s recently crowned continental champion Reese Vannerson starts with nothing but a podium in mind after he was finally able to put a run of bad luck and injury to rest, taking the Americas Triathlon title in Chile two weeks ago. Compatriot Sullivan Middaugh finished second behind Mislawchuk in Huatulco and will back himself for another big result this weekend, while Blake Bullard and Gergely Kiss will seek to break up the race early across the 750m swim.

From the central and southern half of the continent, Chile’s Andree Buc will be fired up after just missing out on a continental medal in 4th, while Aram Penaflor returns after helping Mexico to the Mixed Relay title.

Dylan McCullough hits his first World Cup start line since winning Tongyeong gold in 2024 after injury issues kept him out of racing for 18 months and Japan’s double Olympian Kenji Nener hunts a first World Cup gold.
