Development Camps Across the Americas and Oceania in March

Throughout March 2026, World Triathlon continued its commitment to athlete and coach development with two regional development camps delivered in partnership with Americas Triathlon and Oceania Triathlon. Hosted in Salinas, Puerto Rico and Koror, Palau, the camps brought together emerging athletes, coaches, and federation leaders to train, learn, and collaborate in high-performance environments. Both projects, through their Development Regional Cups, offered the last opportunity to gain eligibility for the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.

Salinas Hosts Americas Development Regional Camp

The 2026 Salinas Americas Triathlon – World Triathlon Development Regional Camp welcomed 21 participants from across the continent, with a female participation rate of 35%. Athletes and coaches represented National Federations from Puerto Rico, Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Jamaica & Panama.

The camp combined daily swim, bike, and run training sessions with coach education opportunities and race exposure, creating a holistic learning environment for both athletes and support staff. A coaching clinic delivered alongside the camp further strengthened knowledge exchange and capacity building across the region.

Following the camp, the World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Salinas was held, providing racing opportunities for the region.

The presence of the Puerto Rico Triathlon Head Coach and Vice President added valuable leadership insight and reinforced the importance of federation engagement in development initiatives.

“It was a great opportunity for everyone to share their experiences and knowledge - not only during the camp, but also during the coaching clinic and the race.”
Javier Mon (ESP), Americas Triathlon Continental Coordinator

“Athletes and coaches from the Americas worked well together,”
Claudia Beristain (MEX), World Triathlon Facilitator

Athletes and coaches from Samoa, Guam, the Cook Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau took part in a week of structured training, education sessions, and collaborative learning.

Hosted in Koror, the camp showcased Palau’s growing role in regional triathlon development and provided participants with valuable experience training in a supportive, high-quality environment.  Following the camp, and to provide racing opportunities for the athletes, the 2026 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Palau was held.

“This week in Palau has set a very high standard in every sense. And thank you to the Palau Triathlon Federation for a fantastic week.”
Chris Clarke (NZL), World Triathlon Head Coach

Building Pathways Through Regional Collaboration

World Triathlon’s regional camps linked to Development Regional Cups play a key role in strengthening development pathways by providing athletes and coaches with access to high-level training, shared learning, and international competition exposure. By working closely with continental confederations, these camps help ensure that emerging talent across the globe receives consistent support and opportunities to progress within the sport.

The March camps in Salinas and Koror once again demonstrated the value of regional collaboration in building stronger, more connected triathlon communities across both the Americas and Oceania.
