Laporte and Lariviere Deliver French Double in Holten

France continued its impressive run in the Europe Triathlon Cup series by claiming two more gold medals at this weekend's Premium European Cup in Holten.

Celebrating its 40th edition, Holten hosted an exciting morning of racing, with Manon Laporte producing a dramatic late surge to win the elite women's race, denying home favourite Robin Dreijling in the closing metres.

Laporte exited the swim at the front before joining the lead group on the bike, which stayed together into T2. Reigning junior world champion Léa Houart was first out onto the run and looked a genuine contender, but it was Dreijling, Laporte and Germany's Selina Klamt who quickly established themselves at the front.

Dreijling dictated the pace for much of the 5km run with Klamt and Laporte tucked closely behind. With 600 metres remaining, the Dutch athlete attempted to break clear, but Laporte refused to let the gap grow. The Frenchwoman timed her move perfectly, accelerating over the final 200 metres to overtake Dreijling and claim victory by just one second.

Klamt was unable to match the finishing speed of the leading pair and crossed the line five seconds later to secure bronze. The trio had opened up a significant gap on the rest of the field, with Houart finishing 30 seconds behind her French teammate in fourth.

The victory marks an important turnaround for Laporte, whose only two previous races this season both resulted in finishes outside the top 20.

The elite men's race followed a remarkably similar script, with France's Milan Lariviere edging Great Britain's Hamish Reilly by just two seconds after another thrilling sprint finish.

Lariviere recorded the fastest run split of the day with a 15:09 5km, while Reilly was just a second slower. The pair were joined in the lead group by Spain's Andrés Prieto Villar, who also recorded the fastest T1 alongside Reilly.

Although Villar stayed with the leaders for much of the race, he was unable to match their finishing pace. Reilly launched his sprint first, but Lariviere remained tucked onto his shoulder before making his decisive move in the closing metres to secure the win, leaving Reilly to settle for silver. Villar completed the podium in third.

Fresh from his podium finish in Kitzbühel, Germany's Fynn Batkin finished fourth, while Spain's Genís Grau rounded out the top five.

In the junior women's race, Belgium's Luca Vanderbruggen claimed her first international title with a dominant performance, crossing the line 31 seconds clear of the field.

The race was effectively won on the bike as Vanderbruggen produced the fastest split of the day, covering the course 40 seconds quicker than the next fastest rider to build an unassailable advantage heading into T2.

Although New Zealand's Hayley Cornwall produced the third-fastest run split and Australia's Addison Houslip recorded the quickest 5km of the day, Vanderbruggen's strong run ensured her lead was never seriously threatened.

Cornwall secured silver, finishing 31 seconds behind Vanderbruggen, while Houslip claimed bronze. Despite recording the fastest T1 and run split, the Australian's eighth-fastest bike split left her with too much ground to recover.

After finishing seventh in Wels last weekend, Czechia's Matěj Procházka turned that experience into victory by taking gold in the junior men's race, finishing 13 seconds ahead of Great Britain's Arthur Ballard.

Rather than dominating a single discipline, Procházka's victory was built on consistency. He recorded the joint second-fastest swim, the fourth-fastest bike split and the seventh-fastest run, while also producing the quickest T2 to put himself in the perfect position to claim the win.

Germany's Lorenz Rumpel completed the podium with an impressive performance. Born in 2009, the youngest athlete in the top 10 refused to be intimidated by the older competition, crossing the line just behind Ballard after holding off Belgium's Runar De Meulenaere in the battle for bronze.
