The ETU are sorry to announce the resignation of Secretary General Jem Lawson.
Following a series of recent health scares, Jem's offer of resignation has relunctantly been accepted by the EB Board and Jem leaves with immediate effect.
In a statement to the Board, Jem said: 'It is with unutterable regret and after the fullest consideration that I have decided to resign from my position as Secretary General of the European Triathlon Union.
'Following the episode for which I sought medical help it has become apparent that there needs to be a considerable period of assessment. In the light of this, to continue would be both injudicious for me and unfair to the organisation.
'It has been a privilege to have had a part to play in the development and growth of triathlon in Europe, however small. I have been pleased to meet and to do business with a group of people who are unparalleled in their enthusiasm, diligence and commitment. I thank the members of the Executive Board for their friendship, understanding and hard work.'
ETU President Philip Schaedler said: 'For me personally, it is a sad moment and I am sure that you will join me in offering our sincerest thanks and praise to Jem for all the hard work he has done for the ETU and the many contributions he has made to our organisation and our sport.
'His passion for Triathlon, his unique character and ability to communicate, his sense of humour and integrity make him a special person and he will be a huge loss for our organisation and sorely missed by everyone.
'The Executive Board now have decisions to make regarding Jem’s replacement and we have started the process to look for a suitable person to be able to take over his duties.
'In the meantime, I know we can rely on our staff at the office in Sunderland to continue their great work, commitment and support to ourselves, the NF’s and other affiliate.'
The European Triathlon Union wish Jem all the very best of health in his recovery and in the future.
