ITU Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar held in Philippines

Twenty four technical officials from six countries (Philippines, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Macau, Mongolia) recently took part in the Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar in Subic Bay, Phillipines. The seminar consisted of class room sessions and practical sessions. Participants’ eagerness to learn more about officiating on the field of play brought up many practical questions during the sessions, making the course more interactive and cooperative.

David Hoong, ASTC Treasurer, was in attendance to support the course and said, “I am so glad to have had this course before the ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships. This course will help our TOs refresh their knowledge and get updated on the new version of ITU competition rules under the guidance of two facilitators.”

Facilitators Omar Bakar of Singapore and Rachel Ribo of the Philippines introduced a variety of group work and invited participants to discuss how they interpreted the rules.

“The group work helped the class keep their attention with our presentations, and ensured us that they understood the subject material. My goal was to transfer my experience and knowledge to the participants, and I think we accomplished that,” Ribo said.

Ki Woo Kyong, ASTC Sports Development Coordinator, added “Asian Champs is the most important event for us to assess sport development in Asia. It is quite convenient and efficient for the TOs from emerging countries to join the course. We will try to combine more TO seminars with big events in the future.”

The ITU Level 1 Club Coaches Course in Kish Island, Iran will be the next development project in Asia from May 18-21.
