Leslie Buchanan and Thanos Nikopoulos, Technical Delegates for the London 2012 triathlon competitions, conducted their latest site visit and meetings in London recently. The two day extensive schedule included discussions on the venue and the course layout. As soon as it will be confirmed by the relevant authorities of London it will be released.
In the meantime it is confirmed that triathlon will pass some of the most iconic sights of London. Other items like sport equipments, anti-doping, sport presentation, ticketing and technology were also touched on during the meetings. Generally the progress of triathlon is in good shape and will move on smoothly specially after 1 January 2010, when Triathlon Competition Manager John Lunt will be working full time on the Olympic project. As soon as the course information or any details including the Test Event will be available, it will be communicated to the ITU Family immediately.
“I am delighted that ITU have Leslie Buchanan and Thanos Nikopoulos appointed as Technical Delegates,” said Gergely Markus, ITU Events Director and Managing Director of Major Games. “With their first hand experience from previous Olympic Games it is great to see that already after the first meeting that they will guide the LOCOG staff on the triathlon specific matters providing another wonderful Olympic triathlon experience. I am grateful for the cooperation from all the LOCOG staff.”
The visit included a meeting with the representatives of the British Triathlon Federation and the main lines of the future National Technical Official education plan was laid down.
The technical preparation for London 2012 will continue with the ORIS (Olympic Results and Information System) meeting attended by Thanos Nikopoulos and Enrique Quesada (ITU Sport Results Manager) in mid-November.
