ITU Competitive Coaching Course for Europe

Medulin, Croatia

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the European Triathlon Union (ETU) are happy to announce they will be hosting an ITU Accredited Competitive Coaching Course (Level 1) in Medulin, Croatia from October 3 through 7, 2008. 

We have put together an expert teaching staff for the course to include, amongst others, Sérgio Santos and António Jourdan of Portugal who together form the personal coaching team for the great Vanessa Fernandes.

The ITU, in conjunction with ETU Sport Development Committee, will select a maximum of 20 coaches from the applications received from developing and emerging National Federations in Europe.

ITU will cover the costs of accommodation, meals, course materials, course fee and ground transport for the duration of the course (attendees will be responsible for their own travel costs to and from Croatia) for the 20 coaches selected to attend the course.

The course will commence at 8:30am on October 3rd and run through until 17:30 on the October 7th, 2008.

Class Times:
Class times will be from 8:30 – 19:30 daily.

Target Group:
Coaches who are involved with the education and coaching of National Federation (NF) athletes with an emphasis on coaches from National Federations that do not have existing NF coach education programmes as well as prospective Coach Education Coordinators from National Federations.


Objective of the course:
The Competitive Coach course integrates sport sciences with triathlon specific preparation, planning and evaluation of the competitive athlete (junior though U23).


Prior Experience Required:
Present proof of having educational competency through documented experience (i.e. coaching certifications in swimming, cycling or athletics).

Evaluation:
Candidates will be evaluated on class participation as well as a take home examination.  All candidates will also be required to conduct a project in their home country and submit an in-depth project report.
