ITU Asia Sport Development Camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand

ITU Asia Sport Development Camp Chiang Mai was the Asia’s Sport Development Project’s last stop. This new project combined talent ID program and sustainable coaching development for emerging NFs. In Thailand, 3 coaches and 20 athletes, aged between 13 – 18 years old, took part in ASTC’s development project.

Emerging NFs always wonder if they select the right athletes and coach and if they are going in the right direction. ASTC’s Development project is trying to help answering those questions NFs’ by providing NF’s coaches with recent training skills and talent ID support. NF’s Coaches work on testing and analyzing data to individualize developing athletes’ training.

ITU expert tested 3 different schedules to meet each NFs’ needs. “This might be the best approach to answer NF’s needs. Some countries are more focusing on Talent ID, others on sustainable development of their athletes and coaches. I am confident we met each NFs’ individual needs.” Said Ki, Woo Kyong, Asia Sport Development Coordinator.

“This camp really guided us to the right direction. I have been curious on how leading athletes are training and why they are training like that. We have trained our athletes with our experiences and knowledge adopted from the training book. This project helped to look at other options.” Said Niwat Imong, Thailand National Team Coach.

“I found that Thai athletes and coaches have an open mind to new training methods. They demonstrated a rapid assimilation of new skills and technique. Thailand’s coaches are on the right path to combine their experience and the presented concepts for the development of excellence” Said Luc Morin, ITU expert.

Next Project: Chiang Mai ITU Level 1 Community Coaching Course, Sep. 1-4, 2012.
