It is with great sadness that ITU announces the tragic death of Ivan Lukic, a coach with the Croatian Triathlon Federation and the Croatian Triathlon Club SWIBIR.

Lukic was part of a new wave coaches in the federation working with juniors.  Known as someone who was always ready to help, Lukic was enthusiastic, optimistic and a hard working young man who cared for mother and younger sister.

Ivan was full of positive energy and worked towards bridging the gaps between athletes and clubs in his hometown, said Zeljko Bijuk, National team director for Croatia.

Sadly Lukic was struck by a car while riding his bike on his way back home from his second job as a lifeguard on the beach.  He was only 24 years old.

ITU sends its heartfelt condolences to Ivans family and friends and to the Croatian Triathlon Federation for their loss.
