The Championship Finals will kick off with the spectacular Parade of Nations on Wednesday, marking the start of five days of intense competition at the highest level. A detailed schedule of events will be announced at a later date.

Approximately 4,500 athletes from around the world are expected to participate in this event. Hamburg will join the select club of hosts of the Championship Finals, which in previous years has included Wollongong, Pontevedra, Abu Dhabi, Edmonton, Lausanne and Gold Coast, to name a few, as hosts of the calendar’s most important World Triathlon event.

Hamburg has a long and successful history with triathlon, solidifying its status as a key location for our sport. In 2002, the city marked the debut of the largest triathlon in Germany with over 2,000 participants in the Hamburg City Man. The city then hosted the first Triathlon World Championships in Germany in 2007, welcoming athletes from 72 nations and attracting over 600,000 live spectators. In 2013, Hamburg hosted the Mixed Relay World Championship for the first time, which saw a German home victory alongside over 9,000 age-group athletes competing. In 2020, Hamburg stepped up to host the only World Triathlon Series event conducted worldwide under COVID restrictions, which acted as a one-off World Triathlon Championship event. In 2023, the city showcased its organizational prowess again by hosting the Sprint and Relay World Championships. The city's commitment to the sport and its world-class event infrastructure make it an ideal location for the Championship Finals.

“World Triathlon is delighted to award the 2027 Championship Finals to Hamburg,” said World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany. “We extend our full support and gratitude to the DTU (German Triathlon Federation) for their unwavering support. Hamburg is one of the most trusted event organizers on our circuit, and we are incredibly pleased that they have once again decided to step up and host the Championship Finals. They have successfully hosted multiple Mixed Relay World Championships, as well as the 2023 Sprint & Relay World Championships. Hamburg is also a favorite event for athletes, both elite and age groupers, so having such a reliable partner is a win for everyone involved.”

Prof. Dr. Martin Engelhardt, President of the Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU), said: 'We are honored that Hamburg has been selected as the venue for the 2027 Triathlon World Championships. This vote of confidence in our association and the city of Hamburg is recognition of years of dedicated work and successful event organization. This decision reflects the city's deep-rooted triathlon tradition and Germany's unwavering commitment to the sport. Together with our partners, we will offer athletes and interested parties from all over the world an unforgettable experience. We look forward to an electrifying atmosphere that will once again transform downtown Hamburg into the triathlon mecca of the world.'

Andy Grote, Senator for the Interior and Sport of the City of Hamburg:  'By hosting the 2027 Triathlon World Championships, we are celebrating a quarter-century of success and adding to the emotional and sporting highlights of recent years. Nowhere else is triathlon as at home as it is in Hamburg. It is part of our city's DNA. With a combination of world-class competitions and thousands of amateur athletes, Hamburg will provide a stage for the sport against a unique Hamburg backdrop that will demonstrate how major international sporting events can thrill and inspire. The World Championships around Rathausmarkt and Binnenalster will also serve as a test run for a possible hosting of Olympic and Paralympic competitions in the heart of our city.'
