As the time is getting closer to the 16th Guangzhou Asian Games, athletes are training harder and coaches are pushing athletes to their very best. We can see the scene in all countries in Asia regardless of the athletes’ performance level.
Triathlon was included in Asian Games program in 2006. The first Asian Games men and women’s gold medals went to Dmitriy Gaag from Kazakhstan and Wang, Hong Ni from China.
Who’s going to claim for podiums in the second Asian Games Triathlon? It is very difficult to expect winners. Most of competitive athletes spent one of longest season this year because the fierce race for one London Olympic Spot just kicked off in last June.
31 men and women athletes from 11 countries will compete for the glory of their representing countries. When it comes to the ITU ranking points, 4 Japanese Men and Women athletes will dominate the podiums.
Elite Women
The elite women will announce the first Asian Games medals because Women’s race is the first event after the Asian Games opening ceremony. In women field, there is consensus that two Japanese athletes, ADACHI Mariko and TSUCHIHASHI Akane, will take top podiums. Chinese and Korean athletes will compete for the remaining bronze medal.
Elite Men
Headlining men field is 2008 and 2009 Asian Champion Ryosuke Yamamo of Japan who ranked 35th place in ITU world Ranking. The next contender for gold medal in Asian games is Hosoda Yuichi of Japan.
Others to watch include 2006 Asian Games Gold medalist Dmitriy Gaag who just returns back to the main stream from 2 years anti-doping sanction, 2006 Asian Games Silver Medalist LEE Chi Wo Daniel of Hong Kong, and 3 times Asian Junior Champion Heo Min Ho of Korea. Currently, he surprised local people when he came in 6th place at Tongyeong World Cup last month.
