Focus on Fredericia: Nordic Championships this weekend

Fredericia has long been a magnet for athletes. With Long Distance Duathlon and Triathlon world championships taking place there and with the great venue, the name is synonymous with our sport and the Danish Federation is rightly proud of their event.

With the re-designed course now even more spectator-friendly, we are looking this weekend at the 2018 Fredericia ETU Triathlon Nordic Championships.

The race on Saturday will be held over the Sprint distance:

  • Swim:  750m (2 laps)
  • Bike:  20,16km (6 laps of 3,36km)
  • Run:  5km (4 laps of 1,25km)

Good weather is forecast for the weekend.

  • 13.00 Elite women start
  • 14.30 Elite men start

This year it will be a battle between Norway, Denmark and Sweden and you can follow the event on Facebook.

Or by logging onto the live-tracking.

The Elite women’s race will see a real battle between Alberte Kjaer Pedersen who comes to the race fired up after her 16:34 5k on the track last week and Anne Holm, who was 4th here last year. They will both be pushed by last year’s silver medal winner, Sif Bendix Madsen. With a chance to test the Elite athletes, Heidi Thranum, a strong Age Grouper, with a silver in the 30-34 category in Düsseldorf last year and a silver this year in Fyn over the Cross Triathlon course, she is in good form and will relish the chance to go head to head with the younger athletes.

We cannot guarantee dolphins for the swim. Yes, back in 2016, Maja Stage was joined in her swim by 'Fred' the local dolphin, but we can guarantee an exciting Men's race.

Amongst the men, it should be a walk in the park for Andreas Schilling. As the reigning World Duathlon champion, from his Fyn victory and with a 5th place last weekend in Montreal, he is in great form and will be wanting to defend the title he won here last year. A top ten finish last year for Emil Holm and solid racing since then, will put him in a strong position in the final stages of the race but watch out for Emil Deleuran Hansen, who won silver here in 2016. Young but fast is Valdemar Solok. His 5th in Riga, following on from taking the world junior title in the Fyn Aquathlon could bring him into contact with a powerful pack on the bike and then his run speed could show us a podium place.
