ETU Executive Board Meeting Review

The Executive Board of the European Triathlon Union (ETU) met in Alanya, Turkey following the final ETU event of the 2008 season. 

ETU President, Marisol Casado chaired the meeting and began with congratulations to all athletes in Beijing, especially to newly crowned Olympic Champion Jan Frodeno of Germany.  Congratulations also to all ITU officials for making the wonderful event happen.

The 2008 season was one of the most succesful for the European Triathlon Union with several big events and great achievements by the European athletes.

Major Highlights of the ETU Executive Board Meeting:
- ETU remained financially stable in 2008 but more resources are still needed to achieve more in all the areas.
- Next year’s Long Distance European Championships in Prague will be held triple-Olympic distance.
- ETU Executive Board will meet again in Madrid the day after the ITU Congress to decide venues for Long Distance Triathlon, Duathlon and Youth/U23 European Championships. National Federations interested in hosting these events will be asked to prepare a proper bid.
- There will be an informal meeting also with the European National Federations the day after the ITU Congress in Madrid.
- Gergely Markus resigned from the position of Regional Representative for Europe in the ITU Executive Board.  Emilio Di Toro was appointed for this position pro-term by the ETU Executive Board untill the next ETU Congress in 2009.
