Development Regional Cup Events & Camps: May 2025

As part of World Triathlon’s ongoing commitment to event, athlete and coach development, a series of regional development camps and competitions were held in May across Europe and the Americas. These camps were held alongside World Triathlon Development Regional Cups, providing athletes and coaches from emerging National Federations with valuable opportunities to build skills, gain international racing experience,  collect World Triathlon Ranking points and strengthen regional development in Triathlon coaching and race and athlete preparedness.

With strong participation from across continents and increasing female representation, the camps also featured mentorship from elite athletes and Olympians, creating a powerful environment for growth, inspiration, and performance progression.

The 2025 Alicante Europe Triathlon - World Triathlon Juniors Skill Development Camp was made available to athletes and their coaches from Category 2, 3A, and 3B National Federations. The camp welcomed 23 participants, including athletes from Lithuania, Malta, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia, with a 26% female participation rate. With a focus on skill development, coaching collaboration, and shared learning between coaches and athletes, the overwhelming highlight was the involvement of special guests and Olympians Roberto Sanchez Mantecon (ESP), Lasse Luhrs (GER), and Jawad Abdelmoula (MAR), who shared their experience and insights with the next generation.

“The participants had the opportunity to train with Olympians such as Roberto Sánchez Mantecón, Lasse Lührs, and Jawad Abdelmoula. They also had the chance to swim alongside David Cantero, U23 World Champion, whose presence and humble attitude served as a powerful source of inspiration. Many young athletes expressed how surreal it felt to share the training with someone they usually watch on international broadcasts. This level of access created an atmosphere of motivation and mentorship that was one of the camp’s most valued aspects, leaving a lasting impact on every athlete present.” - Vicent Beltran (ESP), TRI Head Coach.

The camp provided a valuable opportunity for athletes and coaches to fine-tune performance in the lead-up to competition.

“Providing this training course for athletes of different ages, and from various developing countries, was a deeply enriching and meaningful experience. For many, this was their first time participating in an international training environment, making each day a unique opportunity for learning and growth.” ~ Andrea Barraza (MEX), Head Coach
